Scripture Song (ABC Verses- Kid’s Edition)
Today, is a big day!
You guys have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this one! I actually had this idea long before I even launched this blog!
Allow me to give a little back story…
A couple years ago, when Andrew was 3, we (and I do mean “we”) learned a Bible Verse for each letter of the alphabet! We would make up a little song for each one and work only on one or two each week! It took time, but it was so worth it and we still practice them about once a month!
Before we get to it, I want to address something. We didn’t memorize “book, chapter, verse” on these! Not that I don’t think that’s important, but one thing I have learned along the way is that the most important goal of memorizing scripture is to get it in you. The Word is alive and when it gets in us, it can’t help but to transform us for the better. Our Father loves us and wants us to live our best life, in the abundance of His love! The path of Shalom, if you will. I can’t think of a better gift to give our kids, grandkids, kids we nanny and care for, and even ourselves! That was one of my most favorite things about doing this with Andrew—we learned these together and now they are inside both of us! I can’t tell you how many times, I get these little tunes stuck in my head or when I come across them in scripture and I find myself singing the verse rather than just reading it! Ultimately, these are what inspired the Scripture Songs in the first place! It doesn’t have to be perfect or polished! These scripture songs definitely aren’t that. They are pitchy, off beat, and a little bit silly at times. But we did it this way on purpose, to show that it’s not actually about any of that.
Shout out to Andrew for helping me record all of these and you will also see, with each verse, his note cards he colored when we were learning them! Also, I’ll give you some fun tips or explanations on a couple of the verses as needed! I hope this inspires you with your own kids in your life, to find creative ways (or steal ours) to get the Word of God in you (and them😉)!
So without further ado, here are our ABC Scripture Songs!

At the end of this one, Andrew and I always like to blow at each other. He thinks it’s so funny!

This one in particular Andrew and I sing to each other, when one of us is, in fact, complaining or arguing. 😂

This is by far one of Andrew’s favorites! He sings it at the top of his lungs and does a little dance with it!

With this verse we talk about what the “two masters” are… God and money. We talk about ways we can serve God and ways we can serve money. Then we talk about why we can’t serve both and why it is better to serve God rather than money.

Kid definition of “earnestly”- to be serious about something. To really care about something.

We also sing this one as, “Pray without stopping.” It helps Andrew learn what the word “ceasing” means.

Now, I know this one doesn’t actually start with “Q” but as you will also see with “Z” the emphasis is on the correct word.

Yes, I did steal this one from when I was growing up. Why fix something that isn’t broke?

Short, sweet, and simple, but so important and good.

Again, this one is from way back when. We also added the rest of the verse/song. “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will keep your path straight, yes He will. He will keep your path straight, yes He will.” Kid definition of “acknowledge”- to care about what He thinks. To think about what He would want you to do.

Kid definition of “vain”- pointless. Andrew also really likes the Hope Darst song, “If the Lord Builds the House”. He pretty much always starts singing it when we do this verse.

With this one we talk about Who is the vine and who are the branches.

Now, I know what you’re thinking… This verse doesn’t start with “X” nor does it have an “X” word in it. But ya know? It’s just ok, come back to me with a verse that starts with the letter “X” and we can turn it into a song. ☺️ But for now, this one has the “X” sound.

Personally, I think this one is my favorite. When we were coming up with this song, I was trying to explain to Andrew what “zeal” was. I told him it was excitement. Which is why we made “zeal” sound really exciting. Also, kid definition of “fervent”- Keep the excitement going.
I hope you enjoyed our ABC Bible Verses! We would love to hear your thoughts or if you came up with some yourself! We would be very interested in learning some new ones! Happy Memorizing!
