Scripture Song- Psalm 25:11-15

I’m sure you’re wondering what this ⬆️ is!

Well, I’ve decided to do a little something different every third Monday of each month. I’m going to give you a scripture in the form of a song! Scripture memorization can be a little overwhelming, so I thought it would be fun to, once a month, have a passage or verse for us memorize together. And I’ll write a little bit about it!

Sound fun?!!

Great! Ok so today’s scripture is:

Psalm 25:11-15 (ESV)

“For Your Name sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great.

Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will He instruct in the way that he should choose.

His soul shall abide in well-being,

And his offspring shall inherit the land.

The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear Him,

And He makes known to them His covenant.

My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for He will pluck my feet out of the net.”

This passage holds promises. Those promises are attached to the fear of the Lord. I’ve been thinking about this passage a good bit lately. John Bevere explains the fear of the Lord like this: “The fear of God is not being afraid of Him, it’s being afraid to be away from Him.”

I’ve always heard the fear of the Lord attached, and even explained, with the word reverence– “deep respect or regard for someone or something.” And while I think this is true, I’ve always had a hard time connecting this idea with how to live a life with God. Being “afraid to be away from Him” still holds the reverence close, but for me, it also connects the daily living—the joy, the honesty, the intimacy, the with God mentality. The fear of being away from Him gives us an invitation to obedience. It encourages us to keep in step with Him—not getting ahead, not falling behind, and being willing to wait on Him. It fuels trust. Trusting that even if we get stuck, keeping our eyes on Him will result in Him rescuing us from the pit, the trap, or the net we’ve gotten stuck in.

There are so many passages on the fear of the Lord, we will certainly be memorizing more and going deeper into understanding. However, today I want to encourage you with this: If you desire friendship with the Lord, start by asking yourself if you fear Him. Do you fear being away from Him as you go about your day? Does the fear of Him or the fear of being away from Him influence moments in your day? Does it influence conversations, actions, the way you see the world around you, how you speak and respond? This is where friendship with God begins.

Take some time this week (or the rest of the month) to memorize this passage! Meditate on it. Use the song and let it get in you and allow His word to change you!

Happy Memorizing!
