Scripture Song: Psalm 63:2-5
“I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and Your glory. Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the riches of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise You.” -Psalm 63:2-5
”Better than life”, this is the phrase that was on my mind when I woke up Saturday morning. I knew it was a scripture, and I love the fact that this week’s blog was scheduled to be a Scripture song. How fitting.
As I chewed on this scripture the last couple days, I asked myself, do I believe this is true? Do I believe His love is better than life? I thought about my life, I feel like I am someone who on a very regular basis, has some really high highs, and also, some really low lows. I think it’s easy for me to say, His love is better than life in low moments… well, I mean, maybe? Because often times, in the low moments, if we are being honest here, (as we usually are on this platform) the low moments are the moments I blame Him. I actually question if He loves me at all.
Ok, ok, so the high moments must be when I truly believe His love is better than life… yea? Maybe? I think I’m pretty satisfied when things are going well. I don’t think I’m thinking much about His love being better when I’m in those high moments. I think I feel more loved by Him when things are going well. But I don’t think that is really the point here. Do you?
Again, if I’m honest, I don’t think I’ve ever fully thought about His love being better than my life at all. I think I base His love on how well my life is going in the moment, or on how healed I feel, or I base it on how many of my prayers He’s answered lately.
Jesus loves me? Of course, I believe that, I’ve heard that my whole life.
But has it led me to really praise Him lately? Am I fully satisfied by His love regardless of where I’m at in my life?
You know what’s really interesting? David wrote this psalm in the Desert of Judah. Yes, the desert. We love talking about the desert/wilderness on this blog!
Here are a few in case you missed them:
Ok that should get you started.
My point is simple today, as are most of the Scripture Song blogs. His love for you is better than wherever you are in life and He is worthy to be praised simply because of this. He’s always better. There’s always more of His love He’s trying to give to us and to open our eyes to. He wants us to fully grasp the cross and resurrection. This was the crescendo moment of His love for us and He wants us to not only see it, but experience it, all the ways we possible can. So, wherever you find yourself today— a mountain top, fully on fire for Him, loving your job, excited about where your marriage is, the “sweet spot” ages of your kiddos, enjoying this season of your life to the fullest, or maybe it’s a desert place, a valley, a hardship, a trial, a suffering, the lowest of lows— His love will meet you there and be more. And because of this, we can praise Him in every situation, season, moment, and circumstance.
May we be intentional to praise Him for His love this week, from exactly where we are in this life, finding ourselves fully satisfied in Him!
